Experience some other cool things to do in NYC

Take a helicopter tour

Save money with a city pass

Save money with a city pass

For the very best view of the city - how it is surrounded by water, the layout and beautiful buildings, a helicopter ride is hard to beat!

There are many options and all are similar, but you can book one here.

Save money with a city pass

If you already know that you will be visiting lots of attractions, I would definitely consider a city pass, which saves you a lot of money. There are a bunch of options, but GoCity lets you choose how many attractions you want to visit. CityPass has fewer options but is still a great deal.

Visit a viewing platform

Save money with a city pass

MoMa - Museum of Modern Art

You will probably have to narrow down which viewing platform to visit. One of my favorites is Edge (there is also a bar and restaurant with limited vegan options up there), Top of the Rock (love it in the fall!) and iconic Empire State Building (you can often see it as ESB)

MoMa - Museum of Modern Art

Even if you are not a huge art lover, you will be blown away by MoMa´s collection and recognize many of the masterpieces on display.

The museum is free on the first Friday of the month for NY residents. For others and other times, you can purchase tickets here.

9-11 museum and memorial

MoMa - Museum of Modern Art

9-11 museum and memorial

In remembrance of the events that took place on September 11, 2001, take this tour of Ground Zero and the National September 11 Memorial. Walk through the space of the former World Trade Center in New York City. Get a deeper understanding of the events that took place here. The memorial can be visited free of charge.

Rise NY

MoMa - Museum of Modern Art

9-11 museum and memorial

Experience RiseNY, a simulation attraction that gives visitors a bird's-eye view of the city, paired with museum exhibit galleries. Soar over NYC’s five boroughs, experience all four seasons, and ring in the New Year all year round while seated inside a 180-degree projection dome that gives the sensation of flight. Plus, discover New York history and culture.

Please note that we get paid a small commission from the tours above. These tours are not operated b

New York City Hotel suggestions

Hotel suggestions

We are contacted quite frequently regarding vegan-friendly hotel suggestions in the city and I wish I had a straight answer. There is currently no real vegan hotel here (someone please open one!) and hotel prices in general are quite insane, especially considering the value for money and when comparing prices to other cities - plus, you will most likely not spend much time in your room anyways. Breakfast is generally not included, so at least you are not paying for something you will not eat.

Here are a few which are vegan-friendly and are located in areas with lots of vegan options.

1 Hotels

1 Hotels, with locations in a few cities in the US and London, are a sustainable, high end chain started by the founder of W Hotels. In NYC, we have one right by Central Park and one at Brooklyn Bridge (great rooftop terrace too - you can go there even if you are not staying at the hotel). Note that there are some leather features in the lobby/restaurant.

Virgin Hotel

The brand new Virgin hotel in NoMad, is very dog-friendly and the restaurants offers a few vegan breakfast items such as avocado toast.

Moxy East Village

Moxy East Village is located in the heart of the East Village – the breeding ground for society-shifting movements in rock n’roll, avant-garde art, Beatnik poetry, LGBTQ+ activism, and American counterculture as we know it. Aside from comfortable rooms, it offers a very cool restaurant, Cathedrale, as well as a nice rooftop bar. Moxy Lower East Side is another nice option.

William Vale

The William Vale hotel is located in Williamsburg, with a great view of Manhattan (not all rooms), surrounded by great restaurants, shops and fun things to do.

50 Bowery Hotel

50 Bowery is located right beside the Manhattan bridge in Chinatown. You will have lots of vegan eateries close by and great access to transportation. From there, you can even walk to Brooklyn - the walk across the Manhattan bridge is much less crowded than Brooklyn bridge and, as an added bonus, you actually see Brooklyn bridge!

Yotel and Pod hotels

Yotel and Pod (multiple locations) offer small, but smart rooms towards the West Side of Manhattan and close to the Theater district/Times Square. Interfaith is another budget-friendly option.

Archer Hotel

This hotel in Midtown, the Archer, is close to Bryant Park, which hosts various events throughout the year. It offers vegan bedding and even chocolates with turndown service. The rooftop bar offers great views of the Empire State Building and the city. It is also a great option if you want to see some Broadway shows without staying right in Times Square

Radio City Apartments

If you are traveling in a larger group (i.e., with multiple kids), this Radio City Aparments might be the right place for you. While there is nothing fancy about it, it is located right in the center of it all, especially if you are planning to go to lots of theaters and Broadway shows. They also feature small kitchenettes, so you can prepare some simple meals and save money at the same time.

No matter where you end up staying, keep in mind that hardly anyone comes to NYC to spend much time in a hotel anyways.

We are more than happy to assist you with finding a great place for you, just drop us a line (we are also a travel agency) eat@vegantoursny.com !
